Brief History of WMMCoop

How it all began

Western Mindanao Credit Cooperative (WMMCoop) is a dynamic, open-type community cooperative dedicated to fostering financial literacy, alleviating poverty, and strengthening economic resilience in the Zamboanga Peninsula and neighboring regions.

Founded with a vision to uplift its members’ lives, WMCCoop has continuously expanded its reach and impact.

Registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) on February 18, 2022, WMMCoop started with 39 founding members and an initial capital of ₱820,000. The cooperative officially began its operations on March 18, 2022, from its main office at Rizal Avenue, Barangay Maloloy-on, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

Recognizing the growing needs of its members, the cooperative made strategic decisions to enhance its services and expand its reach.

In November 2024, the cooperative amended its by-laws to expand its services into consumer products such as computers, cellphones, appliances, accessories, and dairy services while also changing its name from Western Mindanao Credit Cooperative (WMCCoop) to Western Mindanao Multipurpose Cooperative (WMMCoop).

This milestone reflects the cooperative’s commitment to becoming a more diversified, inclusive, and sustainable organization capable of serving the evolving needs of its members.

2022

The Beginning of a Shared Vision

Western Mindanao Credit Cooperative (WMCCoop) was officially registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) on February 18, 2022. Founded by 39 pioneering members with an initial paid-up capital of ₱820,000, the cooperative officially began operations on March 18, 2022 in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur. Established to promote financial inclusion, cooperative values, and community development, WMMCoop laid the foundation for empowering individuals and families through accessible financial services.

2023

Rapid Growth and Financial Innovation

Within its second year, the cooperative experienced remarkable growth in membership and financial performance. Membership more than doubled, reflecting the increasing trust and confidence of the community. To further strengthen member protection, WMMCoop introduced the Solid Shield Account, an innovative financial assistance program that provides automatic Damayan benefits to the families of deceased members. This initiative reinforced the cooperative's commitment to mutual aid, financial security, and member welfare.

2024

Transformation into a Multipurpose Cooperative

Recognizing the changing needs of its growing membership, the cooperative amended its By-Laws in November 2024 to expand beyond traditional credit and lending services. It officially changed its name from Western Mindanao Credit Cooperative (WMCCoop) to Western Mindanao Multipurpose Cooperative (WMMCoop), marking a significant milestone in its history. The expansion introduced new business ventures, including consumer products, computers, mobile phones, appliances, accessories, and dairy services, enabling members to access quality products at affordable prices while strengthening the cooperative's sustainability.

2025

Expanding Opportunities and Community Impact

Building on its transformation, WMMCoop continued broadening its services and increasing its impact across the communities it serves. The cooperative enhanced financial literacy programs, expanded access to affordable loans, strengthened livelihood opportunities, and diversified member services. These initiatives empowered entrepreneurs, farmers, employees, and families to improve their financial well-being while contributing to local economic development and community resilience.

2026

Building a Stronger Future Together

Today, WMMCoop proudly operates one Main Office and Four Satellite Offices, bringing cooperative services closer to more communities across the region. Guided by its mission of improving the quality of life of its members, the cooperative continues to innovate, diversify its services, strengthen financial sustainability, and promote inclusive growth. As it looks toward the future, WMMCoop remains committed to becoming one of Western Mindanao's leading multipurpose cooperatives, creating lasting value for its members and the communities it serves.
